IITs are undoubtedly one of the most prestigious engineering institutes in the world. And, it is because of this that every aspiring engineering student dreams of studying in this institute. However, getting admission in the IITs is not an easy task. The students need to first crack JEE Mains and JEE Advanced exam to get admission here. Once the student cracks JEE Mains exam, he/she gets one step closer to IITs. The student then is eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced exam, which is solely conducted for admissions in IITs.
So, it would be right to say that IIT Advanced exam is a life-altering exam and the students appearing for it needs to have plans and strategies. One such strategy is to analyse the expected cut-off of the exam. Yes, it is difficult to do so beforehand but is certainly not impossible.
Every student, while preparing for JEE Advanced exam, or any exam for that matter, gather and analyses all the information the regarding the process of the exam. And, analysing the expected cut-off is one of them.
It is right to assume that a cut-off for an exam is determined on the basis of several factors. No one factor is more significant than others. Same is the case with JEE Advanced exam. It is in the hands of the committee of JEE to calculate all the relative factors before announcing the specific cut-offs. Few of which are:
- The cut-off that was issued previous year
- Number of applicants that appeared for the exam this year,
- Number of seats available in the IITs and their total intake of students that particular year, and
- The level of difficulty of the question papers.
Also, there are few pointers which have to be kept in mind by the students when they appear for JEE Advanced exam for the IITs. The main ones being:
- All the 23 IITs that are a part of JEE Advanced will be an issue separated the JEE Advanced cut-off.
- JEE Advanced cut-off for the IITs will be available to all qualified candidates through online mode.
- Even if the student qualifies JEE Advanced entrance exam, it is important to meet the official JEE Advanced 2018 cut off for admission in the IITs.
Now that the students are familiar with the factor for determining the cut-off, let’s look at the previous year JEE Advanced cut-off. The reason why is important for students to know this is that they can get a clearer idea of what to expect.
Category | % Reservation | Cut-off Marks | % Cut-off |
GENERAL | 50.5% | 128 | 35% |
OBC | 27% | 115 | 31.5% |
SC | 15% | 64 | 17.5% |
ST | 7.5% | 64 | 17.5% |
TOTAL | 100% |
Before moving ahead and analysing the table, let’s look at another table which informs all about the number of candidates who appeared for the exam
Year/ Exam | JEE Advanced 2017 |
Eligible | 2,20,000 |
Registered | 1,72,024 |
Appeared | 1,59,540 |
Qualified | 50,455 |
Thus, the information in both tables hopefully gives the students a clear picture of the cut-off pattern. And, in a way will help those who want to predict a cut-off for JEE Advanced 2018.
