JEE Main Counselling
Since the year 2015, the Joint Seat Allocation Authority, better known as JoSAA, carries out the entire counselling process for JEE Main. From counselling registration to final seat allotment, everything is controlled by JoSAA. For the convenience of the candidates, the entire process of counselling is held in online mode and it is only at the end that the candidates have to report to the centre.
However, though the process is convenient, it’s quite confusing too. So, in through this article we hope to guide the students through the entire process of JoSAA counselling and hope that after reading this they would not have any difficulty at the time when they have to go through the counselling process.
JEE Main 2018 Counselling
The counselling cum seat allotment of JEE Main involves the following six steps:
Step 1- Online Registration
Step 2- Choice Filling and Locking
Step 3- Allotment of Seat
Step 4- Seat Acceptance and Fees Payment
Step 5- Verification of Documents
Step 6- Reporting to the Allotted Institute
Now that the students know the stages of counselling, let’s discuss these six stages in detail-
1. Online Registration
The candidates need to access the official website, i.e. http://josaa.nic.in/and register themselves using their JEE Main 2018 Roll No. and password. They have to enter all the required details such as name, category, address, etc. and then, have to complete the registration process by paying the counselling fees via- challan, debit or credit card.
2. Choice Filling and Locking
Once the registration is complete, the candidates then have to select their choice of Institute & Academic Programme. While filling in the choices, the candidates should select the institutes in the order of priority and preference. Their most preferred college should be on the top and the least preferred option should in the last. The candidates should keep though they can interchange their choices of institutes, they need to lock the choices before the issued deadline. Also, since the choice locking will be done after each round of counselling, the candidates have an option to mark upgraded choices in successive rounds.
3. Allotment of Seat
After the completion of the previous step where the candidates submitted their choices, JoSAA will assign the candidate's institutes on the basis of their All India Rank, Reservation norms, Choices filled and availability of seats. Since, it will all be new and confusing for the candidates, to help them, there will be two round of mock allotment of seats. So when the actual allotment takes place, the candidates would have knowledge of what they are doing and thus will make better choices.
4.Seat Acceptance and Fees Payment
Once the seats are allotted, the candidates need to pay the acceptance fees to confirm their allotted seat. The fees will be paid only through the e-challan or SBI net banking. The seat acceptance fee for the general category is Rs. 45,000/- and Rs. 20,000/- for others. After the completion of fee payment, the candidates need to download their “Provisional Seat Allotment Letter” for the further process.
5.Verification of Documents
After the completion of the previous step, the candidates need to report at the designated centre for physical document verification. If in any case, a candidates’ verification of documents fails, then his/her admission will be automatically cancelled. So, below is the list of all the required documents-
- JEE Main Provisional Seat Allocation Letter
- JEE Main Rank Card
- JEE Main Counselling Form
- JEE Main 2018 Admit Card
- Class 10th& 12thMark sheet
- 2 Passport Size Photos
- Category Certificate, if any
- Medical Fitness Certificate
Even though the candidates need to only submit the copies of these documents, they need to carry the original documents with them.
- Reporting to the Allotted Institute
Finally, the candidates need to report at their allotted institute for confirmation of admission. If any candidate wishes to switch from their allotted institute on account of vacancy in another institute, he/she will have to go and report themselves again at the new institute.
