All You Need to Know about IIT JEE Main Eligibility Criteria
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has declared the JEE Main eligibility criteria on its official website, candidates who wish to pursue engineering courses in the IITs, NITs, CFTIs can check the eligibility requirements of JEE Main and then jump on to filling of the JEE application form. The eligibility criteria of JEE Main consists of details about candidate’s age limit, academic qualifications, nationality and many more. As we already know, from this year JEE Main will be conducted by NTA instead of CBSE, so it is very important for candidates to know the eligibility criteria of JEE. JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2019
The detailed eligibility criteria of JEE Main 2019 is given in the table provided below:Eligibility Criteria | Specifications |
Age Limit | In general, from this year the age limit to apply for JEE Main 2019 has been scrapped off by NTA. However, only those students can apply for this examination who have passed Class 12 or any other equivalent examination in 2017 or 2018. Students who are appearing for Class 12 examination in 2019 can also apply to JEE Main 2019. |
Qualifying Examination | Candidates must have passed or are appearing for the Class 12 examination. |
Subjects/ Subject Combination | Candidates must have studied Physics, Mathematics, Language, Chemistry/ Biology/ Biotechnology/ Technical Vocational Subject and any other subject as compulsory subjects in Class 12 or any other equivalent examination. |
No. of Attempts | Candidates can appear to JEE Main for three consecutive years. From 2019, as the exam will be conducted twice a year, so, candidates can appear in both the attempts. |
Eligibility criteria for admission to NITs/ IIITs/ GFTIs:
For admission to NITs/ IIITs/ GFTIs, students are required to score an aggregate of at least 75% marks (65% for candidates belonging to SC/ ST category in Class 12 or any other equivalent examination or candidate’s score in Class 12 must lie in the top 20 percentile.Related Blog: Smart Tips to Clear IIT JEE Main Exam 2019
For admission to B.Arch course, students must have passed Class 12 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects with an aggregate of at least 50% marks.
JEE Main Eligibility Criteria for Qualifying Examination
To be eligible to appear for JEE Main 2019, applicants have to qualify in any of the exams given below:- Class 12 or any other equivalent examination from a recognized board.
- Intermediate or Pre-University program or Pre-Degree course exam conducted by any of the recognized board/ university.
- Final exam of the 2-year duration program of the NDA’s Joint Services Wing.
- Vocational examination of HSC
- SSC examination conducted by NIOS with at least 5 subjects.
- 3 year diploma course from AICTE or State board of technical education.
- Any school recognized by the Association of Indian University (AIU) equivalent to the 10+2 system in India.
Subjects Studied in the Qualifying Examination
It is compulsory that candidates must have studied at least 5 subjects in Class 12 or any other equivalent examination i.e. Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry/ Biology/ Biotechnology/ Technical Vocational Subject, Language and any other subject.Pass percentage: There is no information about pass percentage required for appearing in the JEE Main 2019.

Availability of Aadhaar Card
From this year, aadhaar is not mandatory for applicants who are applying for the JEE Main 2019. For B.Tech/ B.E. – Candidates must have scored an aggregate of at least 75% marks in Class 12 or any other equivalent examination along with qualifying in JEE Main 2019 OR candidates must have their Class 12 score in the top 20 percentile.For B.Arch/ B.Planning – Candidates must have studied Mathematics as a compulsory subject in Class 12 and have passed Class 12 examination with at least 75% marks in addition to qualifying JEE Main Paper 2.
