Understanding JEE Main Eligibility Criteria
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the JEE Main eligibility criteria on its official website. Candidates who wish to pursue engineering courses from IITs, NITs and CFTIs are advised to check the detailed JEE eligibility criteria. The eligibility criteria of JEE Main consists of parameters such as age, academic qualification, nationality and many more that candidates need to fulfill. Apart from the eligibility criteria, candidates must go through the IIT exam pattern to get information about the type of examination. As we all know that JEE Main 2019 will be held in two sessions i.e. in January and in April. The January session of JEE Main has already been concluded and the JEE Main April session will be held from April 7 to April 12, 2019. JEE Main Eligibility Criteria
Candidates are required to fulfill the below mentioned criteria in order to be eligible to appear for JEE Main.- Date of birth
- Details of the qualifying examination
- Subjects studied in Class 12
- Score obtained in the qualifying examination
Eligibility Criteria | Specifications |
Age Limit | From this year, there is no age limit to apply for JEE Main. However, candidates are required to pass Class 12 either in 2017 or 2018. Candidates appearing for Class 12 examination in 2019 are also eligible to apply for JEE Main 2019. |
Academic Qualification | Candidates must have passed Class 12 or any other equivalent examination. |
Number of Attempts | Candidates can appear for the examination for three consecutive years. |
For admission to NITs/ IIITs/ GFTIs
For admission to NITs/ IIITs/ GFTIs, candidates have to fulfill the following conditions given below:- Candidates are required to score a minimum of 75% marks in Class 12 or any other equivalent examination or he/ should be in the top 20 percentile in their Class 12 examination.
- Candidates belonging to SC/ ST Category need to score at least 65% marks in Class 12 or any other equivalent examination.
- Candidates who have passed Class 12 or any other equivalent examination either in 2017 or in 2018 or those who are appearing in Class 12 in 2019 will be considered eligible to appear for JEE Main 2019.
Subjects in the Qualifying Examination
It is compulsory for candidates to have studied at least five subjects in Class 12 or equivalent examination. The five subjects that candidates need to have studied for JEE Main are as follows.- Language
- Physics
- Mathematics
- Chemistry/ Biology/ Biotechnology/ Technical Vocational Subject
- Any other subject
Pass percentage
The JEE Main eligibility criteria does not specify any sort of passing marks for appearing in the entrance examination. This is because the examination is also a kind of an eligibility test for admission to B.Tech courses.JEE aspirants are also advised to go through the detailed JEE Syllabus to get information about all the topics and subtopics based on which the questions might be asked in the entrance examination. Candidates are advised to don’t rush here and there in search of right set of JEE books. Instead of doing so, they must refer to the standard books recommended by the toppers and experts.
