IIT JEE Main Eligibility Criteria
National Testing Agency (NTA) along with the authorities of JEE have a prescribed JEE Main Eligibility Criteria. The students must look into it before applying for the IIT JEE Main Eligibility 2024 (April).
If a candidate is found to violate IIT JEE Main Eligibility Criteria at any stage of the exam process, right from applying for the exam to verification of documents during the counselling, then they would get their candidature cancelled.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria: Age
There is no upper age limit for appearing in the JEE Main examination. The candidate, however, must have passed Class XII or equivalent examination in 2024. Else, they should be appearing in Class XII or equivalent examination. It is only then will the candidate be allowed to apply for the examination.
IIT JEE Main Eligibility Criteria: List of Qualifying Examinations
- Class XII or equivalent exam conducted by a recognized Central or State board including ICSE, CBSE and CISCE.
- Intermediate or Pre-Degree Course exam or Pre-University Course conducted by any of the recognized Board/ University.
- HSC - Vocational examination
- The final exam of the two year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
- AICTE or SBTE recognised Diploma of at least three years duration.
- National Institute of Open Schooling conducted Senior Secondary School Examination with a minimum of five subjects.
- For admission to IITs, General Certificate Education (GCE) exam (London/ Cambridge/ Sri Lanka) at Advanced level (A).
- Association of Indian Universities (AIU) recognised School, Board and University examinations in India or in any foreign country recognised as equivalent to Class XII.
IIT JEE Main Eligibility Criteria: Year of Passing or Appearing in the Qualifying Exams
Below is the information regarding the year in which a candidate should have passed or appeared in the qualifying examination to be eligible for the IIT JEE Main Eligibility Criteria (April):
- The Candidate must have passed the class XII or any other qualifying exam from the list mentioned above in the years.
- The Candidate must be appearing in Class XII or any other equivalent exam.
Below is the information regarding the year in which a candidate has passed or appeared in the qualifying examination, which leads to the rejection in his or her candidature in IIT JEE Main
- A candidate who has passed the Class XII or equivalent examination in or before, and those who will appear or later will not appear in IIT JEE Main Eligibility Criteria.
- A candidate who has appeared in Class XII and has failed in it, but has passed in 2024 also will not be eligible for IIT JEE Main.
IIT JEE Main Eligibility Criteria (April): State Code
State Code is the referral code of the state, from where a candidate has passed his or her Class XII or equivalent examination. It is a vital component which is required to decide the eligibility of a candidate in IIT JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2024. If the state from which a candidate has passed Class XII or equivalent exam is different from where he or she has given their improvement exam, then the state code of the state from where the candidate had initially passed the qualifying exam will be considered for eligibility.
JEE Main Eligibility Criteria (April): Admission
For Admission into NIT, IIIT & GFTI: Candidate should have scored a minimum of 75 percent marks in Class XII or equivalent exam, or they must be in Top 20 percentile of the Class XII examination. For the SC/ST candidates, a minimum of 65 percent marks should be scored in Class XII or equivalent examination.
For Admission into BArch/BPlanning: Candidates should have scored a minimum of 50 percent marks in Class XII or equivalent exam from a recognized board.
IIT JEE Main Eligibility Criteria (April): Subjects
- For BTech/BE: The candidate should have passed the qualifying examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology and Technical Vocational subjects.
- For BArch: The candidate should have passed the qualifying examination with Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry as subjects.
- For BPlanning: The candidate should have passed the qualifying examination with Mathematics as a subject.
